The land where Edgebrook and Sauganash presently stand was originally occupied by the Potowatomi Indians, led by Billy Caldwell, whose Indian name was Chief Sauganash – meaning Englishman. Caldwell was born in Canada. His father was an officer in the British military and his mother was Potowatami.
